How do I refresh my blood and willpower pools? (05/22/19)

A quick(ish)?™ note on your characters blood pool, willpower, feeding, and downtimes as this has come up more than a few times since last game.

During game sessions you use the mobile sheet to track blood and willpower expenditures for your characters. You can refill your blood pool during game sessions by going to a Storyteller or Narrator and let them know you need a feeding scene or to use your Herd background (pg 102) to refill your blood and they can assist. Also, prior to each game session, your pools (both blood and willpower) are refreshed to max (minus certain flaw conditions, or mechanics that prevent a full refresh). At their discretion, ST's may also refresh pools as at any time as situations warrant. When you are checked into game, the system processes this automatically to refill your pools.

The way this system works is, if you have not submitted any downtimes at all during the last period, the system automatically assumes that you feed and will refresh your pool accordingly. If you have submitted downtimes in the system, but have not submitted any feeding action for this period, it will start your pool at half capacity. Those with the Herd background will see an option in the list for Feeding at 0 dt cost. The system will check if you have herd and refresh accordingly.

How many characters am I allowed to have in play? (01/22/14)

Players may only have 1 active character at any time. If a player elects to retire a character in favor of another, said character is permanently retired and cannot be brought back into play. This does not apply to characters in "forced" retirement, a player may have any number of characters in "forced" retirement.

What is the xp plan that we will be using for our chronicle? (05/22/19)

Characters are always built with 33% of the current chronicles XP ceiling. The XP
ceiling is based on the total possible xp a character could have earned if it played every
game of DoS by night. This system is different than the previously used permanent XP
system. Previous DoS players should take this into account to avoid confusion.

Characters with less than 100 xp earn 12 xp a month. They earn 6 xp for attending the
first game they play in a month, they earn 6 xp for the second game they attend.
Characters that prepay for a month earn 8 xp the first game, and 4 xp the second.

Characters with less than 200 xp but more than 100 xp earn 10 a month. They earn 5
xp the first game and 5xp the second. Characters that prepay earn 6xp the first game
and 4 xp the second.

Characters with less than 300 xp but more than 200 xp earn 8 a month. They earn 4 xp
the first game and 4xp the second. Characters that prepay earn 5 xp the first game and
3xp the second.

Characters with less than 400 xp but more than 300 xp earn 6 a month. They earn 3 the
first game and 3 the second. Characters that prepay earn 4 the first game and 2 the
second.

If you pre-pay for the month but miss the second game you may apply that credit to next month or you may notify the ST's or Admin that you will miss that game and wish the credit to be applied to the game you missed so you receive the xp for that missed game.

You may carry over any number of credits, or apply them to games you have missed.  Unused credits cannot be refunded.

Why is my character set to in-active? (08/14/14)

Characters that have not been in play at any games for some time may be marked as in-active and taken off the active roll call.  Typically a character will be set to in-active if a player has not logged into the website or attended any games in the last couple of months (one to three depending).  If a player has created a character but hasn't attended any games within a month, their character will be removed from the roster unless they've made prior arrangements with the ST and Site Admin.

If your character was moved to in-active status, when you next log on to the website, you will see Create a Character in the navigation (instead of "Character" drop down menu options).  If you have an in-active character and click on Create a Character you will be taken to a page to either re-activate your character or retire the character permanently so you can start a new character.  You can re-activate your character even if the clan currently shows as capped on the roll call (this is the only exception to exceeding the clan cap without Storyteller approval).

If you have been absent for an extended period of time, you can talk to the website admin to see if you're eligible to apply floor xp to your xp log for your in-active character.  Floor XP can only be applied if your attendance xp is less than what the floor xp currently is.

How do I submit my character for approval? (07/30/14)

As long as your character sheet is in a "saved" state, it is legal for play. When it is in a saved state, it will say "saved" in bright green at the top of the character sheet.

The Storyteller may review sheets at their discretion, and will typically only need to validate a sheet if there is a conflict or character death involved.

The boons are administered by the Master Harpy. You'll need to bring all your boon transactions to them for the boons to be recognized as valid.

Do I need to spend a downtime action to learn disciplines? (05/11/19)

Yes, you must spend a downtime action to learn a discipline regardless of it being in or out of clan. In the case of player having large amounts of xp banked, they only need to spend 1 downtime action per discipline line regardless of the number of dots being learned. In other words a player with enough xp banked to buy celerity 3,4, and 5 only needs to spend 1 DT action, but would need to spend 2 downtime actions to learn celerity 1 and dominate 1.

Page 111:
A vampire can learn those powers easily through experimentation and personal study; this process requires you to spend 1 downtime action between game sessions.

To learn an out-of-clan from another character that character must have been in play at least 4 games before the Academy function is enabled for teaching.  You may also look for NPC teachers utilizing downtimes.

Per Page 112:
After character creation, you can freely purchase your character’s in-clan disciplines with XP.
To learn 1 or more dots of an out-of-clan discipline:
• The student must find a teacher who possesses the desired discipline in-clan, and has mastered at least the level she wishes to learn.
• The student must drink a point of Blood from the teacher to awaken the potential to learn a discipline not innate to the student’s clan. If the student already
possesses a dot of the discipline to be learned, she may skip this step. The student cannot learn other powers or disciplines from the ingestion of this Blood.
• The teacher must spend 1 point of Willpower for every power to be taught, and inform the student which discipline (and which powers) he is teaching her.
• The teacher must be in contact with the student and must give her instruction from time to time, but teaching does not consume a downtime action. The
student must actively train, and, therefore, must spend 1 downtime action per power to be learned.
• The student must spend the XP to purchase the power or powers.
• The student need only drink 1 point of Blood from the teacher to gain the capability to learn all of the powers of a given Discipline, even if learning from multiple
vampires. The individual powers still need to be taught and learned separately. The Blood ingested counts towards the blood bound.

NPC Retainers present at game. (01/17/15)

If a PC has NPC retainers etc around him/her during a game session they must wear a tag indicating the number of retainers, a description of the retainers, and any obvious traits. IE "carrying huge swords."

If a PC does not have this tag on during the game session, then the retainers are not considered to be present.

DoS will not currently be providing these tags, they will be the responsibility of the player. Descriptions must be clearly legible and large enough to read.

Stock NPC ratings pertaining to skills and disciplines (03/20/19)

If a stock NPC is using a skill or a discipline that refers to a number of dots in a skill, use that stock NPC rating for the number of dots. In the case of Linguistics, a stock NPC with a rating of 3, and a spec in linguistics, knows 3 languages.
